Sustainable waste management has taken a major step forward with the introduction of Oricol Environmental Services’ new on-site liquid treatment plant at its KwaZulu-Natal head office in Durban.
Designed to process basic oil waters and effluent waste locally, this facility brings enhanced service efficiency and cost savings to Durban-based clients.
A strategic investment for improved service
Previously, Oricol transported liquid waste to its blending plant in Cato Ridge, 50km outside Durban. While effluent waste treatment itself is cost-effective, transportation expenses drove up service prices.
With the new facility, Oricol can now process liquid waste locally, reducing logistical costs and offering a more economical solution for its customers.
“The plant opens up the opportunity to treat more volume and divert more waste from landfills, benefiting both our clients and the environment,” says Andrew Fernandes, Oricol’s KZN Regional Manager.
Who benefits from Oricol’s liquid waste treatment services?
Many industries generate liquid waste that requires professional treatment. Oricol’s services cater to a wide range of businesses, including those in chemical manufacturing, engineering, and food production.
“Most industrial businesses have their own fleet of trucks, and with that comes wash bays and repair areas,” Fernandes explains.
“These areas need to be vacuumed regularly, and the collected water must be treated. Our new plant provides a more convenient, cost-effective solution for businesses requiring pit desludging, vacuum services, and hazardous or non-hazardous liquid waste treatment.”
Advancing environmental responsibility
With South Africa’s landfill bans on liquid waste, proper wastewater treatment is essential to prevent pollution and protect water resources.
Oricol’s plant ensures that treated water re-enters the system safely, contributing to a circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of industrial operations.
Beyond direct business benefits, this initiative aligns with Oricol’s sustainability commitments. Treating effluent water responsibly helps protect vital ecosystems such as wetlands, which serve as natural water filters and support biodiversity.
Looking ahead: national expansion of liquid waste treatment services
Most importantly, Oricol will now be able to offer better service and value by rolling out its liquid treatment services to its national clients operating in South Africa’s major cities.
Businesses nationwide will now have access to reliable, compliant, and cost-effective wastewater management solutions tailored to their operational needs.
